Specialty Coatings/Tints

COLOR COATINGS
WHAT DO THE COLORS REALLY MEAN?

Pink / Rose
Most commonly prescribed color of all the tints. Used for general cosmetic enhancement.

Yellow – (Shooter Lens)
Commonly used in low light environments to enhance contrast and aquity. Yellow attacks the shortest wavelength of the color spectrum (blue) to reduce “optical noise” caused by haze, mist, and smog.

Green
Produces a transmission curve of light closest to that of the human eye. It is steadily gaining popularity in the U.S. sunglass market.

Brown / Vuarnet Style
A very popular base color for sunglasses. Color assists overall improvement contrast and acuity by managing the blue light spectrum.

Grey
Most popular base color for sunglasses. Color provides even light transmission through the complete visible color spectrum. Grey allows for perception of surroundings to be viewed in their natural shades.

CRT Lenses
Computer screens can be unkind to the eyes. As computers have become part of everyday lifestyles, we all have experienced computer “screen-itis” – the red and itchy eyes, blurred vision and dizziness all associated with prolonged computer use. A major university study confirmed that 94% of people working with computers experienced vision symptoms. CRT coatings from NACL combine UV blocking treatments with a high quality anti-reflective coating and special color tint. The result is a product that vigorously combats VDT glare and reflection, while magically improving contrast between characters on the screen for easy, comfortable viewing. Available in three colors and only on plastic lens materials.

Grey – for use with multi-color screens and black and white screens
Violet – for use with green screens
Blue – for use with amber screens

Lumasport – (shooting lens)
This lens was designed for sporting activities that demand high contrast including golf, tennis, hunting, marksmen, etc. Excellent for low light conditions (dusk or dawn). Yellow 2 tint with the Opticlear Plus anti-reflective coating.

Therapeutic Lens Series (T.L.S.)
Individuals who are ultra-sensitive to light will benefit from this lens. It eliminates 100% of the harmful ultraviolet light, 100% of the harsh blue light and 95% of the near infrared light. The TLS lens series is specifically designed to work in the 380nm to the 500 nm range commonly called the blue light spectrum. Filtration for blue light is necessary because it has the shortest wavelength and is easily scattered or diffused. Scattered blue light reduces one’s contrast sensitivity or washes out what is being viewed at the time. This is most common in people with certain retinal conditions or diseases such as: Retinitas pigmentosa, Diabetic retinopothy, Macular degeneration, Anfidia, and Glaucoma.

TLS 475 – “preventative” protection for people who spend time in the sun. May also be worn indoors. 40% absorption.

TLS 511 – Moderate protection for people with developing ocular symptoms. 50% absorption.

TLS 525 – Moderate to strong protection for senior citizens and sports enthusiasts. 60% absorption.

TLS 550 – Maximum protection for all people with advanced ocular symptoms. 70% absorption.

(All TLS tints are a solid brown/orange color and include a solid flash gold mirror.)

Blue Eliminator I & II
This lens is best known as the “blue blocker” style tint. These lenses have the same characteristics as the Therapeutic Lens Series.

Blue Eliminator I – Gradient tint – Dark brown at the top fading to orange at bottom.

Blue Eliminator II – Same as Blue Eliminator I with the addition of a Flash gold mirror.

Ultra Violet Filters (UV)

Plastic Lens – (clear in color) UV filter is absorbed into the lens using conventional tinting techniques. Lenses achieve 100% UV protection after treatment.

Mirror/Solar Radiation Control

Solar Radiation Control  (SRC) is a comprehensive sunwear coating program by NACL which addresses the market demand for premium sunwear. Technologically advanced coating designs for sunglasses are now available for all prescriptions and lens materials. Also, SRC coatings are available on pre-coated stock basis for both plano and prescription lenses.

There is an SRC coating to meet every need.

Mirror Coating Types:

Reflex Mirrors: (Dynamic Impact)

This type of mirror coating has been available to the industry for more than 20 years. It can be applied to all types of lenses with excellent results. The reflex mirror consists of a series of coating layers, which attenuates visible light transmission. In most cases, the density is 20% to 30% darker than the original uncoated lens. Reflex mirrors should be applied to a base tint of at least 50%. Base tints of Grey and Brown gives the best results. Reflex mirrors are the only mirrors available in solid, single gradient, and double gradient versions. Reflex mirrors are offered in Silver, Gold, Blue and Rainbow (pictured above-right) mirror colors.

Flash Mirror (Bolle® Style)

The flash mirror is part of the reflex mirror family except the coating density is reduced to give a more subtle effect. Available in Silver and Gold, solid or gradient mirrors.

The Black Mirror (NACL Exclusive)

The Black Mirror provides a true “signature look” and is considerably different from other types of colored mirrors. It could be likened to many layers of the finest hand-rubbed wax applied the surface of a Rolls Royce. The Black Mirror is the darkest mirror we produce, and looks best when applied to a neutral green/grey base tinted lens.

Sportlife Mirror Series

The Sportlife series from NACL is a family of four technically advanced lenses that ease outdoor light problems commonly encountered by lovers of the great outdoors.

Sportlife Snowscreen
(double gradient Silver / Vuarnet® style base tint)

Helps define terrain in “white on white” light. For skiers, skaters and other winter sport enthusiasts.

Sportlife Seascreen
(double gradient Blue / Vuarnet® style base tint)

Combats glare and reflection in blue green light. For fishing enthusiasts, recreational boaters, sailors and beach lovers.

Sportlife Landscreen
(double gradient Gold / Vuarnet® style base tint)

Absorbs harmful light, yet permits carefree viewing for golfers, hunters, bikers, and joggers.

Sportlife Rose
(double gradient Silver / Vermilion style base tint)

Dark rose tint with special gradient filter to reduce glare from above and below. All-purpose sunglass.

Dielectric Mirrors
(Uncompromising Performance)

High technology in motion. Advanced protection and light wave management will keep you on the edge. This mirror, developed by NACL, utilizes a completely different technology than the reflex mirror. This mirror uses between 5 and 11 layers of virtually colorless materials, precisely applied, which results in a brilliant color mirror effect. Dielectric mirrors, unlike Reflex mirrors, do not add any density to the lens and can be used for all outdoor activities. Further, these coatings can be applied to all lens materials with equally good results.

Available colors: Blue, Violet, Orange, Green, Lilac, Arctic Blue, Virtual Red and Inferno. Excellent for driving, golf, tennis, and activities requiring high contrast and acuity.

Metalectric Mirrors
(Outrageous Color)

Hyper-reflective filters for maximum protection from the sun’s harsh rays. With a mission of developing radically new mirror products, NACL has completed the task. The result is the Metalectric mirror series. Metalectric mirrors are the cutting edge in design, innovation and performance. These new mirrors utilize the latest in Ion Beam technology to improve durability and scratch resistance of the mirror coating. Metalectric mirrors can be applied to all lens materials. NACL recommends a maximum base tint of 65% in grey or brown. Metalectric mirrors are available in two hyper-reflective colors, Electric Blue, and Extreme Green. Includes UV, tint, mirror and hydrophobic overcoating.

Ultra-Violet Protection

All SRC coatings block 100% of harmful UV radiation. Considerable information has been published over the past several years regarding UV radiation, and its potential for damaging the human eye. Ultraviolet radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between 190 and 380 nanometers (nm). UV radiation can be divided into the following three regions:

Wavelength       Type       Energy

315 – 380nm   UV – A     Lowest

280 – 315nm   UV – B     Mid

190 – 280nm   UV- C     Highest

Sunlight contains UV radiation, however the atmosphere filters out the high energy UV-C radiation before it reaches the earth’s surface. UV-B radiation causes sunburns and may potentially be responsible for eye damage and cataract formations. SRC coatings effectively filter these harmful wavelengths, as well as the lower-level UV-A radiation.
